building an investment mold

Repeated dipping in binder and application of fused silica sand builds a ceramic shell mold over the wax. It may take five days to a week. When finished, the mold will withstand the stresses of being heated to the high temperatures required to melt out the wax original, and then the extreme thermal shock of receiving molten bronze at a temperature of 2200 degrees farenheit, a temperature that will cause water to explosively vaporize and concrete to spall with a noise like gunfire.
